The Column
This Column was meant to be a celebration of the beginning of the dozenth year of my Data Journal, but instead something’s come up.
WE’RE MOVING
A job opportunity came up for my wife back in the Blue Valley region south of Kansas City, where we used to live. That’s closer to where I work, too. So we’ve gone all-in on operation back to KC this summer. The past 6 weeks have been a whirlwind.
The next couple months are going to be interesting
Why Move?
Between changing job situations, some friends and family moves, there’s been “move back to KC” reasons piling up over time - building up a “let’s move” pressure in the back of my mind. Recently the dam broke.
The People…
…Around Us
We don’t leave Lawrence gladly. We were excited to raise a family here. The neighborhood we are leaving is wonderful, and growing more wonderful with time. We met some great people and our kids have made some really good friends. Things were only getting better.
…We Owe Everything To
Our move wasn’t supposed to happen this fast. It has put us into “GO MODE” more than we’ve ever been as a family unit. And exactly when we’ve needed it, the people we love and who love us have gone to battle for us, not because we asked them to, but because they knew we needed it. They aren’t lending a helping hand, they are lending a helping heart, body, and soul. It is amazing and overwhelming, and I can never thank them enough. Melissa and I are eternally grateful.

Moving is not fun. I’ll complain about that at some point. Tell me “you wanted this, bro, you can’t complain”.

2. Future Posts about Smart Homes
The house we are likely getting is a blank slate when it comes to anything smart. I am thinking about going in on HomeAssistant. This is apparently a pretty deep well, and I can already tell I’m going to jump right in and start swimming.
