New Phone Year

Melissa and I have been rocking iPhone 14 Pro since it came out 4 years ago. That makes this phone the longest-tenured phone I’ve ever had. It’s been great, honestly. If it weren’t for the battery I’d have no real reason to upgrade.

I wrote that last paragraph with my old phone. This paragraph with my new one. I went from the regular size iPhone to the Max.

Buy Once, Cry Once

This phone is crazy expensive. Is it worth it? I dunno, maybe. I won’t be replacing this phone next year, though. Probably not the year after.

This fits into the “less, but better” ethos, which is one of my General Operating Principles.

Peak Phone

This is not a new take - but since about a decade ago, we’ve not really made meaningful improvements on phones.

Things are better now, but you really have to be looking for the differences.

Siri and Siri AI

I’ve long been a Siri apologist. Siri AI has been widely praised. I’m not going to repeat what you may have heard elsewhere. Here’s my take, in short:

Siri is like having a vocal command palette. A menu of choices of functions you could order from.
Siri AI is like having someone with you who can use your phone.

Increasingly Niche Interests → Fewer Updates

A large part of the reason I don’t write blogs as often as I used to (despite the recent flurry of posts) is that my thinking and interests have grown more and more niche over time. This blog just isn’t a good spot for that.

The blog is for family and friends. And, I don’t think y’all (should have to) care about my very specific and niche thoughts about the differences between modeling and diagramming.
